Ancestral Wine Club & Restaurant

Went for my birthday on a day trip to Tarragona. We asked if there was a set lunch menu, forgetting it was the weekend. The extremely lovely chef and owner, Alex, created one for us despite it not being offered at the weekend. He was so attentive and we were delighted to be guided by him. The dishes were stunning, especially the tomato and mozzarella salad. If it sounds a bit ordinary, don’t be fooled. The best part was that everything was gluten free. We found the restaurant on a GF blog and it didn’t disappoint. Alex told us his girlfriend has a wheat intolerance and that motivated him to start the restaurant. Wonderful service all round (also from Victor) and stunning food. Great birthday treat. Thank you!

We had lunch at Ancestral today, everything we ate was absolutely delicious! The staff are very friendly and knowledgable. We had the tomato salad, a seasonal dish of wild mushrooms and a pork dish, everything seasoned well and tasted amazing. Great selection of wines. Highly recommend!

I have been a few times since they recently opened and have enjoyed every visit. One of the nice things that this restaurant offers is a great knowledge of local wines and which type is best to pair with their dishes. The first time we visited we had a cheese plate which was one of the best cheese plates I have had in the city, this was then pared with some red wine. The second time we visited was just for deserts and a glass of wine that complimented the dishes very well. On this visit we discovered there is a beautiful outdoor area that can be reserved for small parties or just used daily to eat out in the fresh air. I will be coming back more in the future for sure.

The place is slightly intimidating, looking like a really fancy restaurant, but the warm welcome that we got put us at ease immediately. Even if the restaurant was full and they were crazy busy, we were guided through the menu without getting rushed. The kitchen served fresh food, so expect dishes to change a little bit and having item that are out of stock and extra item because of fresh delivery ! The dish were delicious, I would suggest to get 2 dishes that you share for balance purpose (we got a risotto with a plate of wild mushrooms for example). And order as many starters as you like, they are so delicious, we got the best anchovies we never had here ! For the wine, they have a lot of variety and natural wine as well, for a very fair price, they also do cocktails and have a wide variety of liquors! All in all, maybe the best restaurant we've been to in Tarragona.

I ate here with family on a trip to Tarragona in Feb. The venue and food were both amazing, but the staff and the knowledge imparted over the course of our meal about the food and accompanying beverages elevated this from a wonderful dinner to a sublime gastronomic experience ! It was so good we returned the next night even though we only stayed 2 nights in Tarragona and there was plenty of good restaurants to choose from. We tried two of the specials on the first night-outstanding pork and beef to be finished off on the hot stones at the table-, but everything we had from the menu both nights was perfect. The ingredients on the menu were locally sourced and there were plenty of wines to choose from on an extensive wine list. Recommendations and knowledge imparted by Alex on the wines /ports (which we tried lots of- hence the pricier bill,) was truly impressive. Don't miss this restaurant if gastronomy is your thing !

The best meal I had in Spain. Alex is so kind and knowledgeable and incredibly generous with his time. Every plate we received was better than the last and his wine pairing suggestions were exemplary. Do not miss out on Ancestral it is a must!

Amazing service, fish, amazing wine, and beautiful terrace. They bring you exactly the wine you would like to taste. Our dinner was very good and they listened to our thoughts to select the perfect wine

This place in Spain is one of the best for eating. We tried many places during our vacation, but this one exceeded our expectations. It's a hidden gem in the old city of Tarragona. Everything was fantastic: the atmosphere was great, the waiters were friendly and polite, the owner Alex, such a humble and kind guy, welcomed us and explained the menu of the day, the patio was nice, and the view was beautiful. We had the menu of the day and enjoyed delicious dishes, including appetizers, a main course, dessert, and drinks. If we have the opportunity to revisit Tarragona, this would unquestionably be our first choice for dining. It was a great experience, and we appreciate this delightful culinary journey.
